Builder's Alcove - Hinged Doors
A builder's alcove comprises of a framed stud wall which is typically lined with gyprock and then painted. Typically homes already have these, as they were built by the builder at the time the house was constructed. The hinge doors are often replaced with sliding doors, which is done by removing the central door jamb (if there is one), to give the wardrobe a whole new fresh look.
The stud framed wall is the strongest option (as it is a solid wall) and creating these from scratch yourself is easy enough.
Internals: Often a builder has fitted this out with raw chipboard and a long hanging rail with maybe some fixed shelves. These don't last very long, nor do they optimize the available space very well. The solution is to remove the existing internals, plaster patch the holes, paint the walls and then fit the new internal area with the new wardrobe inserts. IMPORTANT Note: If you are wanting to replace the standard internal hinged doors with new ones, we do not supply standard internal doors for this application - these can be easily purchased from your local door supplier or hardware chain.
